Admission decisions are made by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions on an individual basis. Wesleyan is a Test-Optional institution. For students applying for the 2023-2024 year, West Virginia Wesleyan has moved to test optional for acceptance for incoming freshmen. Whether you are applying as an incoming freshman or transfer student, the Office of Admissions looks forward to receiving your application and assisting you throughout the college selection process.

Admission to West Virginia Wesleyan College is moderately selective. Many factors influence the admission decision. The most important factor in the admission decision is your high school record (course load and grades attained).
Wesleyan is test-optional, so providing an SAT/ACT is not needed for decision. We do recommend providing one if you have it to assist in placement.
We also factor in community involvement and engagement, extracurricular activities, recommendations, and class rank, if available. Campus interview are strongly encouraged and help us get to know you to customize a WVWC education to your needs.
You are encouraged to pursue a challenging college preparatory program throughout the four years of high school. We require the following selection of courses:
English – 4 units
Math – 3 or more units (including Algebra I & II and Geometry)
Science – 3 or more units (including one or more lab sciences)
Social Studies – 3 or more units
Foreign Language – 2 or more units recommended but not required

The Admissions Committee takes into consideration the following: academic preparation, high school and/or college records, standardized test results, demonstrated leadership capabilities, and personal recommendations reflecting strong personal character and achievements.
The College invites applicants for admission to supply further evidence indicating his/her competence and eagerness to deal with a demanding and exciting program. Open without discrimination to all qualified students, the College reserves the right to refuse to admit any applicant who, because of low scholarship or citizenship record, is deemed by the Admission and Academic Standing Council to be unlikely to succeed within the standards the College seeks to maintain

Advanced Placement by Examination
Wesleyan participates in the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board. Students who have taken and satisfactorily passed college-level courses in high school and who have passed the Advanced Placement Examination of the Educational Testing Service at the level of three or higher may apply to the College for credit or advanced placement in these subjects. These examinations are administered in the spring. Applicants must have results sent to the Office of Admission for verification prior to the fall semester.
Wesleyan accepts credit by examination, including the Advanced Placement Program and the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). Information on credit by examination is available from the Registrar’s Office.

Readmit Application
Students returning to West Virginia Wesleyan College after time away or as a transfer back to the institution must complete an Application for Readmission. Information can be found here: Readmit Application

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
The College recognizes the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Students who have successfully completed the IB Program and earn a score of four or above on higher-level examinations may apply to the College for credit or advanced placement in the appropriate subjects. These exams are administered in the spring. Applicants must have the results sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for verification prior to the fall semester.
